Many thanks to Edward Mountain MSP for the Highlands and Islands Rhoda Grant MSP Fergus Ewing MSP for speaking up for Caithness Health Action Team during the Petition Committee meeting today. This was in relation to their Petition for Community Participation Request for healthcare in Caithness. This is particularly important to us due to the downgrading and centralisation of our healthcare through stealth.
The background to this is simple – CHAT represents thousands of people in the county in regard to maternity and other very important healthcare issues. CHAT should clearly be given a “seat at the table” by NHS Highland as a community representation group. This has not happened. There is no appeal process. The Petitions Committee at Holyrood are considering the matter, following submission of a petition by Maria / CHAT. There is no doubt at all that CHAT should be represented, and the lack of an appeals process is not acceptable.
